Each year, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation partners with From the Top—a nonprofit organization that encourages and celebrates the commitment of young people to music and the arts, airing performances on NPR—to advance the careers of young classical musicians. From the Top’s Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award Program provides 20 outstanding young musicians who demonstrate financial need with a $10,000 scholarship to advance their artistic development and education.

We are proud to present you with the work of one Young Artist Award recipient, composer J.P. Redmond.

For his Young Artist Arts Leadership project, Redmond composed and recorded a film score to accompany the 1921 silent short film featuring Buster Keaton titled “The Haunted House.” The film will be shown at libraries and community centers for veterans and adults of all ages. His work on the film even earned him a 2014 Morton Gould Young Composer Award!

The Foundation is also pleased to announce that three From the Top performers have received this year’s Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship. William Ritter, Hyung-Do Kim, and Phuong Nghi Pham are all Young Scholars, as well as From the Top performers, who have received this year’s generous award.
