Each year at our Scholars Weekend banquet, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation announces the recipients of the Matthew J. Quinn Prize and the Matthew J. Quinn Youth Leadership Award. Both awards honor the foundation’s first executive director, Dr. Matthew J. Quinn, who served from 2000 to 2010.

Quinn Youth Leadership Award Recipient Sarah Sahibousidq

Naperville, Illinois, high school sophomore Sarah Sahibousidq is a 2014 Cooke Young Scholar and one of two recipients of the Cooke Foundation’s 2015 Matthew J. Quinn Youth Leadership Award, which she was awarded for developing and implementing a mentorship program and a summer enrichment program to assist students in elementary and middle school.

Quinn Youth Leadership Award Recipient Agata Bykovtsev

Agata Bykovtsev, a 2012 Cooke Young Scholar, is rising high school junior from Goleta, California, and a world ranked chess player. She is a female FIDE (World Federation of Chess) master, a female FIDE (World Federation of Chess) master, a WIM (Woman International Master), and a national chess master. As a national chess master, she is one of only 24 women in the United States. Agata was a gold medalist at the Pan American Chess Championship in 2014 and the North American Junior U20 Chess Championship in 2015.

LANSDOWNE, VA – For their outstanding contributions to the communities in which they live, Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholar alumnus Chat Travieso has been awarded this year’s $10,000 Matthew J. Quinn Prize. In addition, Cooke Young Scholars Agata Bykovtsev and Sarah Sahibousidq have each been awarded a $2,500 Matthew J. Quinn Youth Leadership Award.

Madeira to Morocco: Quinn Youth Leadership Award Winner Sarah Wood

For the average student, senior year of high school is a filled with sports games and pep rallies, homecoming and prom, standardized tests and college applications, senior prank and senior skip day. For Sarah Wood, a former Young Scholar and rising College Scholar, her senior year of high school looked very different. Instead of finishing her final year at Madeira in McLean, Virginia, Sarah decided to do an eight-month study abroad program in Morocco.

Quinn Prize and Sarah Wood the Matthew J. Quinn Youth Leadership Award. Shrochis Karki and Matthew Loftus will receive $10,000 each, and Sarah Wood will receive $2,500.

Media Release: JKCF Hosts 12th Annual Scholars Weekend

Lansdowne, VA – To advance its commitment to supporting exceptional students with financial need, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is hosting its 12th annual Scholars Weekend, August 1-4, at the National Conference Center in Leesburg, VA.  

The Foundation will convene panels, speakers, and other activities for nearly 450 new and ongoing Jack Kent Cooke Scholars and alumni from across the country, allowing them to engage in high-level intellectual exploration, build strong relationships, showcase their talents, and provide tools that will enable Scholars to transition to the next phase of their education or careers.
