Orange Magazine Profiles Cooke Scholar Ismael Castaneda's Mentorship

As a first-generation student attending community college, Ismael Castaneda’s growing accomplishments as an honors student and in campus organizations were recognized by school leaders. Soon he was invited to conferences and speaking to staff about his experiences.

After learning about the Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship from Cooke Scholar Alumnus Raul Magdaleno, Ismael applied and is now completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He continues to mentor other first-generation and Latino students, helping them to realize opportunities and develop their personal identities. Ismael’s efforts and achievements are recognized in a recent profile by Orange Magazine.
