In an op-ed for the New York Daily News, Crystal Bonds and Harold O. Levy celebrate the encouraging spirit of College Signing Day while noting some of the factors that discourage many talented low-income students from ever sharing their college acceptance letters.
Bonds, who is principal of The High School for Math, Science and Engineering at the City College of New York and CLASS Coalition president, and Levy, the Cooke Foundation’s executive director, discuss the role of selective-admission high schools in building a strong pathway to college. Attending a school surrounded by other motivated and high-achieving peers can help students envision themselves continuing to higher education.
