Honoring Vassar's model of Higher Ed Equity under President Cappy Hill
During her time as president of Vassar College, Catharine “Cappy” Hill led the institution into becoming a more socioeconomically diverse campus.
“Vassar is one of a relatively small number of selective higher education institutions that have proven that income-driven educational inequality does not have to stay with us,” writes Executive Director Harold O. Levy in a commemorative issue of Vassar’s alumni magazine.
Levy’s article describes the actions taken by Vassar, which the foundation recognized with the inaugural award of our $1 million Cooke Prize for Equity in Educational Excellence. This award honored the institution’s dedication to enrolling and supporting high-achieving students from low-income backgrounds.
