Grantee Spotlight: The Art of Problem Solving Foundation

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation grantee The Art of Problem Solving Foundation is dedicated to promoting and providing opportunities to explore and experience mathematical problem solving among middle and high school students in the United States. With this mission in mind, the Art of Problem Solving Foundation launched the Summer Program in Mathematical Problem Solving (SPMPS) to give underserved middle school students with talent in mathematics access to high-quality mathematical resources and instruction. Ultimately, SPMPS seeks to enable their alumni to get on the pathway toward careers as mathematicians, scientists, engineers, and programmers.

To ensure that low-income, high-achieving youth are exposed to the same high-quality summer enrichment programs as their higher income peers, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation has supported summer programs such as the Summer Program in Mathematical Problem Solving. Through this grant, SPMPS was able to provide a three-week residential program to approximately 80 underserved New York City middle school students with talent in math at two program sites and to offer year-round programming targeted at future opportunities for advanced study.
