Empowerment Through Financial Literacy: Cooke Scholar Marshelle Davis

Posted by Marc Linmore on Sep 26, 2017 4:29:36 PM

Marshelle Davis is looking to affect change that will impact generations. And now, with the help of the Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship, she is one step closer to making that a reality.

After succeeding as a community college student at Palm Beach State College, Marshelle has moved on to finish her four-year degree at the University of Miami. She will be studying accounting, with dreams of increasing diversity in that field and educating others about financial literacy.

“I truly believe that financial literacy is the key to release individuals, families, community businesses, entire underserved communities from the bondage of poverty,” she says. “I've seen that happen with so many people, and it's actually my life's mission.”Marshelle.jpg

Marshelle will receive up to $40,000 per year to complete her bachelor's degree, along with opportunities for internships, study abroad, and graduate school funding.

“Becoming a Cooke Scholar to me, in one word, is opportunity,” she says. “Suddenly when I found out I was a scholar, the entire world opened up to me. I began to really dream again. Being someone who was a teen mom, a single mom, and having to do what I needed to do, to becoming someone that's able to do what I want to do in life is extraordinary.”
